What the colours mean

Every light at a glance

Check engine Book this week
The engine computer has logged a fault. If it flashes, the engine is misfiring: slow down and stop safely.
Oil pressure Stop driving
Oil pressure has dropped too low to protect the engine. Driving on can destroy it within minutes.
Battery / charging Book this week
The battery is not being charged. The car will run on battery power alone until it goes flat.
Brake system Stop driving
The handbrake is on, or the brake fluid is low. If the handbrake is off, have the brakes checked before driving far.
Engine temperature Stop driving
The engine is overheating. Pull over, switch off and let it cool. Never open a hot radiator cap.
ABS Book this week
Anti-lock braking is switched off. Normal brakes still work, but wheels can lock up under hard braking.
Tyre pressure Keep an eye on it
One or more tyres are below the right pressure. Check them soon: low tyres wear fast and use more fuel.
Airbag Book this week
The airbag system has a fault and may not deploy in a crash. Have it checked before long journeys.
